Garden Maintenance Auckland

Gardens that grow all year, kept in hand.

Garden maintenance in Auckland never really stops: the mild, damp climate means weeds grow nearly all year and shrubs put on growth fast. Spruce keeps on top of it with regular visits or a one-off tidy: weeding, pruning and clearing up. Tell us about your garden and we'll send a price.

Regular or one-off

Garden care for a garden that keeps growing.

In Auckland, a garden left for a month shows it. Most gardens here do best with a regular visit, fortnightly or monthly, and a bigger tidy at the change of season.

One-off tidy

When the garden's got ahead of you, before a family event, or at the start of spring.

  • Beds weeded back to soil
  • Shrubs trimmed and shaped
  • Edges cut, paths swept
  • Green waste taken away
Year-round

Regular garden care

Fortnightly or monthly visits, planned around what's growing, so the weeds never get a head start.

  • Weeds out before they seed
  • Pruning timed to each plant
  • Leaves cleared from paths and drains
  • Lawns and hedges on the same visit

Seasonal resets

Spring and autumn resets for gardens that never really stop.

  • A spring cut-back and mulch
  • Autumn leaf clearing
  • Perennials and grasses cut back
  • Bark topped up on beds
Weeding in Auckland

Weeding for a climate with no real winter.

Auckland's weeds don't take the winter off. Oxalis, onion weed and wandering willie come back from bulbs and broken pieces, so how they're pulled matters as much as how often.

Bulbs out, not just leaves. Oxalis and onion weed regrow from what's left in the soil, so we dig them out rather than pulling the tops off.

Wandering willie bagged. It regrows from tiny pieces, so every scrap goes in a bag and leaves with us instead of going on the compost.

Pruning at the right time. Shrubs cut back after flowering, and fast growers kept in shape before they block paths and windows.

Mulch to hold the summer. A layer of mulch or bark keeps weeds down and holds moisture through a dry Auckland February.

Everything taken away. Weeds, prunings and leaves bagged up and taken with us when we go.

What's included

What an Auckland garden visit includes.

Every visit is shaped around your garden, but these are the jobs most Auckland gardens need. If there's something else, ask and we'll price it.

Weeding: oxalis, onion weed, wandering willie and the rest, dug out of beds and borders.
Pruning: shrubs and hedging plants trimmed back into shape.
Deadheading: spent flowers cut off to keep plants flowering longer.
Edges: bed and lawn edges cut clean, with kikuyu pulled back.
Leaves: raked from beds, lawns, paths and drains.
Mulch and bark: spread on beds before the summer dry.
Green waste: bagged and taken away.
A walk round: a quick look together at what's done and what's next.

FAQ

Auckland garden maintenance FAQs.

The things Aucklanders ask most about getting a gardener in.

It depends on the size of the garden, how much needs doing and how often we come. Tell us about it, or text a few photos, and we'll give you a price before anything's booked.
We can keep it under control. Oxalis grows from small bulbs that break off easily, so it's dug out rather than pulled, and it usually takes a few rounds before a bed stays clear. Mulch afterwards helps.
Yes. It regrows from small stem pieces, so we pull it out, bag every bit and take it away rather than composting it. Shady, damp corners often need a follow-up visit.
Most Auckland gardens do well with a visit every two to four weeks, because the weeds keep growing through the mild winter. A small, low-maintenance garden can get by with less.
Yes. Weeds, prunings and leaves are bagged up and taken away when we go, unless you want to keep some for your compost.
Yes. Lawn mowing and hedge trimming can be done on the same visit, so the whole section's sorted at once.
Spruce works right across Auckland, from courtyard gardens in the central suburbs to bush-edge sections in the west and big family gardens on the Shore and out east. Tell us your suburb and we'll confirm when we can start.
