A little about Mt Wellington.
Mt Wellington sits about ten kilometres southeast of the city centre, bordered by Stonefields, Tāmaki, Panmure, Penrose and Ellerslie, with the Tāmaki River on one side. Its centrepiece is Maungarei / Mt Wellington, a 135-metre scoria cone formed around 10,000 years ago. Until the 1940s the flat land here grew most of Auckland's vegetables, before it was turned into an industrial estate.
Sylvia Park is the big draw, with around 250 stores and more than 4,000 car parks, plus its own train station. Bailey Road, Stanhope Road, Sylvia Park and Panama Road are the local primary schools.
