A little about Onehunga.
Onehunga sits about eight kilometres south of the city centre on the northern shore of the Māngere Inlet, an arm of the Manukau Harbour. Governor Grey chose it in 1846 for the country's first Fencible village, settled by former soldiers in 1847, and through the 19th century most shipping between New Zealand and Britain came in here.
Onehunga Mall is the main street, with the train station, Jellicoe Park and its memorial arch, and the Dress Smart outlet centre close by. The foreshore at Taumanu Reserve opened in 2015, with State Highway 20 between the suburb and the harbour.
