A little about St Marys Bay.
St Marys Bay is a small, steep harbour suburb wedged between Ponsonby, Herne Bay, Freemans Bay and the water, right by the foot of the Harbour Bridge. It is one of Auckland's oldest and most tightly held pockets, known for its dense run of grand Victorian villas, many of them ornate, multi-storey and beautifully restored, lining the narrow streets that drop down toward the harbour. Apartments and townhouses fill in here and there, but the villas are what the suburb is known for.
The suburb looks straight out over Westhaven Marina and the Waitematā, with Shelly Beach Road and Curran Street running down toward the water and the bridge.
