A little about Mt Albert.
Mt Albert sits about seven kilometres southwest of the city centre, built around Ōwairaka / Mt Albert, a volcano that erupted an estimated 120,000 years ago. It started as big estates for wealthy landowners in the 1860s to 1880s, and after the Second World War the housing shortage brought state housing areas like the Stewart Estate. It borders Point Chevalier, Sandringham, Avondale, Waterview and Ōwairaka.
New North Road carries the town centre, once called the Terminus because the tram stopped there from 1915, with Mt Albert station alongside and Baldwin Avenue station down the line. Mt Albert Grammar, Marist College and Unitec are all here.
