A little about Sandringham.
Sandringham sits about seven kilometres from the city centre, between Mt Eden, Mt Albert, Balmoral and Morningside, with Eden Park just to the north. It was swamp before it was suburb. The streets were laid out evenly either side of Sandringham Road and lined with wooden California bungalows, and after the Second World War the last of the farmland became state housing.
The village runs along Sandringham Road between Halesowen Avenue and Lambeth Road, with South Asian restaurants, grocers and halal butchers, which is why it's known as Auckland's Little India. Edendale Reserve and Kiwitea Street have the sports fields, and Ōwairaka fills the view to the west. Our cleaners know the area, from the shops along the village to match nights at Eden Park, just to the north, when parking restrictions go up around the stadium.
