Carpet Cleaning NZ

Carpets that look and smell clean again.

Carpets hold onto everything a vacuum can't reach: ground-in traffic, old spills, the smell a pet leaves behind. So Spruce has trained local teams that lift it out with hot-water extraction, pre-treat the marks they can see, and deodorise where it's needed. If anything in your booked clean isn't right, we'll come back inside 48 hours.

What we clean

Choose what your carpets need.

Most carpets just need a thorough hot-water extraction across the rooms that get used most. Heavier traffic, marks or pet odour can be added on, so pick what fits the home and we'll quote anything outside scope before the day.

Step-by-step process

Our 6-step carpet cleaning process.

We don't cut corners. We pre-check, prepare, clean, deodorise and reset so the result is consistent from room to room.

Step 01

Pre-inspection

Our team checks the carpet type, condition, traffic areas and visible marks so we can choose the safest and most effective cleaning approach for the home.

Step 02

Furniture shift (light items)

We carefully move light furniture where practical and safe, then use protective blocks or tabs where needed. Heavy, fragile or electronic items should be moved before we arrive.

Step 03

Pre-treatment & spot removal

We apply pre-treatment to loosen embedded dirt and treat common spots before extraction. Some stains may be permanent or need specialist handling.

Step 04

Hot-water extraction

We clean with hot-water extraction to lift dirt, residue and moisture from the carpet fibres.

Step 05

Carpet deodorising

We finish with professional deodorising where selected, leaving carpets smelling fresher after the clean. Especially useful for pet households and long-overdue carpets.

Step 06

Furniture reset

We return moved items to their original position where practical, using furniture tabs or blocks to protect the carpet while it dries.

What's included

What's included in a carpet clean.

A standard residential carpet clean covers a full hot-water extraction of the booked rooms, with pre-inspection, pre-treatment for common spots and a final check before the team leaves. Every job is measured against that full scope.

Pre-inspection: carpet type, condition, traffic areas and visible marks checked before we start.
Pre-treatment for common marks: applied to loosen embedded dirt and treat visible spots before extraction. Stain removal is not guaranteed.
Hot-water extraction: the same method commonly called steam cleaning. Lifts dirt, residue and moisture from the carpet fibres.
Deodorising where selected: applied after extraction. Available per room or whole-home.
Light furniture movement where safe: couches, chairs and small items shifted where practical, with tabs or blocks to protect during drying. Heavy, fragile or electronic items should be moved before we arrive.
Final check before completion: booked rooms reviewed before the team leaves so anything obviously missed gets handled on the day.
Advice on drying and ventilation: practical guidance so the carpet dries cleanly. Dry time depends on carpet type, airflow, humidity and soil level.
Locally trained teams: every Spruce cleaner is signed off in our system before working on customer homes.

Common carpet jobs

The carpet jobs we see most often.

Carpet cleaning ranges from a routine refresh to a full move-out reset. Below are the jobs we book most across NZ homes. Choose what fits the property.

Lounge & living room carpets

High-use lounge, family room and open-plan living areas, the rooms that pick up the most foot traffic and need the most regular refresh.

Bedroom carpets

Master and kids' bedrooms cleaned around beds and furniture, with pre-treatment for common marks where needed.

Hallways & high-traffic areas

Worn traffic lanes through hallways, entries and doorways, the carpet areas that need cleaning more often than the rest of the home.

Stains, spills & spot treatment

Pre-treatment for common spills, food, drink and traffic marks before extraction. Some stains may be permanent and cannot be guaranteed.

Pet odour & deodorising

Carpets that need a fresher finish after cleaning, with deodorising treatment for general odour and light pet smells. Severe urine contamination may need a separate quote.

End-of-tenancy carpet cleaning

Carpets cleaned as part of a move-out. Usually booked alongside an End of Tenancy clean, but available on its own when carpets are the only thing left.

FAQ

Carpet cleaning FAQs.

The things customers ask us most about carpet cleaning.

Usually a few hours to overnight, depending on the carpet type, pile thickness, airflow, humidity and how soiled it was. Heavier soiling, dense pile, cool weather and poor ventilation all stretch it out. We give you drying advice on the day, usually opening windows, running fans and keeping foot traffic light until it's dry. Our guide on how often to clean carpets covers dry times and method in more detail.
We shift light furniture where it's practical and safe, then use protective blocks or tabs where needed. Heavy items (beds, dressers, wardrobes, bookcases), anything fragile or valuable, and electronics should be moved before we arrive. We won't move things we can't move safely, or where it risks damage to the item or the carpet.
No, stain removal isn't guaranteed. We pre-treat common spots and most fresh stains lift well, but some marks can be permanent: dye transfer, bleach, rust, ink, makeup, paint, tannins, old set-in stains, pet urine that's reached the underlay, water damage and sun fading. If we can see a stain in your photos, we'll tell you upfront whether we expect it to lift.
We can add deodorising for general odour and light pet smells, and it helps in most homes. Severe urine that's soaked into the underlay or sub-floor is a different job, and may need specialist restoration or carpet replacement, which is outside our standard scope. Tell us at booking and we'll let you know whether it fits a standard clean or needs a quote.
Yes, the two terms are used interchangeably, though hot-water extraction is the proper name. Heated water and cleaning solution are injected into the carpet, then immediately extracted with a powerful vacuum that pulls dirt, residue and moisture out of the fibres. It's the method most carpet manufacturers recommend.
Yes. Carpet cleaning can be added to a house clean, deep clean or end-of-tenancy booking. Add it when you book and it shows on the same job for the team. We sequence the work so carpets are usually cleaned last, so they dry undisturbed.
A quick vacuum the day before helps, since it lifts surface debris so we can focus on what's embedded in the carpet. It isn't required, but it can improve the result on heavily soiled carpet. No need for a deep vacuum, just clear the loose dirt, hair and crumbs where you can.
Stairs and standard rugs can usually be added, quoted separately because they take more time per square metre than open floor. Specialist rugs (wool, silk, antique, hand-knotted) and anything that needs off-site cleaning aren't part of our standard residential service. Tell us at booking and we'll let you know what fits.
Yes. Eligible bookings can be split into 4 interest-free payments with Afterpay, selected at checkout. Useful when you're cleaning multiple rooms, adding deodorising, or booking carpets alongside another Spruce service.
Pricing starts from $159 for one bedroom (see the table above). The final price depends on the number of bedrooms, hallways and stairs, any heavy staining, pet-odour treatment, and access. Anything non-standard is quoted before the day: very large rooms, commercial areas, severe contamination or specialist stain treatment.
