A little about Royal Oak.
Royal Oak sits between Epsom to the north and Onehunga to the south. It's named after the Royal Oak hotel on the roundabout, which lost its licence in 1909 and later became a pharmacy and a real estate office. The roundabout once had the Seddon Memorial in the middle, a Gothic market cross that doubled as a tram shelter, gas lamp and drinking fountain, until traffic saw it removed in 1947.
Manukau Road runs through the suburb, Royal Oak Mall was expanded in the 1980s, and New Zealand's first KFC opened here in 1971.
